Ray Stevens: Blue Christmas novelty

I was informed by another Ray Stevens fan that the comedy version of "Blue Christmas" is now available at Ray's on-line music store. This music store is located at his web-site. You will need to click "Buy" and a drop-down menu will appear and then you'll need to click the on-line store. There is a non-comical recording of "Blue Christmas" on his 2009 Ray Stevens Christmas release but then a comical version, based on the stuttering rendition from Seymour Swine and the Squealers, was promoted through several on-line web-sites. The comical recording from Ray makes it's debut on an EP single which features three other songs: White Christmas, Deck The Halls With Teardrops, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. I have those other three songs so I am hoping the comical version of "Blue Christmas" by Ray becomes available as an MP3 single for those who don't want to re-purchase the three other songs. However, as the days and weeks go by and if there's no offer made to purchase just the song, I may give in and purchase the EP. For those unaware, an EP means an "extended play" single.

Ray Stevens: The Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving Eve...2009...as a fan of Ray Stevens I think I can safely speak for all that we're all thankful that he's a part of our lives in whatever way. Some fans are drive-by, some are passive, some are curious and interested, and some are die-hard. I fall into the last category of fan...but everyone knows that.

Ray's music has always been entertaining and interesting. I've come to the conclusion that there's not been a Ray Stevens song that didn't entertain me in some way. In this day and time Ray is well-known as a comical singer but as this blog illustrates there's much more than comedy when it comes to Ray. His latest single, "We The People", is comical but it's also rather pointed and satiric at the same time. I'm thankful that a free country allows mirth and mayhem and nobody is thrown in jail if they are not of everyone's taste. I read some commentary claiming that "We The People" goes too far. The single is mostly being discussed on social web-sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc etc. In my opinion as I mentioned in a previous blog entry, I see nothing wrong with the song. It has just enough whimsical moments to where it isn't overly serious.

So, there's a lot to be thankful for in a free society. Those who like to brow-beat and feel the comedy of Ray Stevens is beneath them, they're free to have those opinions, but they're not welcome here, and being the creator of this blog page I have the right to be picky over content. In other words, pro-Ray Stevens feelings are welcome...anything negative is not. I'm thankful for the country enabling me to have those freedoms.

During my Thanksgiving day it traditionally consists of me and my family eating a lot of food. Some people don't celebrate Thanksgiving like that but in our family that's the way it's done. The food is fixed by my parent's and usually my sister's and brother bring things over to the house. The menu consists of the basics: Turkey, mashed potatoes, ham, dumplings, dressing, pumpkin pie, home-made noodles, deviled eggs, and Jell-O. Inside the Jell-O is fruit cocktail. The color of the Jell-O this year is purple. Usually the color is red and the flavor is strawberry or cherry but for whatever reason they wanted purple this year. The Thanksgiving feast is often ready around 1pm or 1:30pm. I will be watching football...I heard that there will be two games on tomorrow on regular cable and then a third game on the NFL Network. I don't have that channel so I'll watch the football game that the local channels air.

The day after Thanksgiving is big-time shopping. I will by-pass this. This is when I start to listen more and more to holiday songs and Ray has that new CD available, Ray Stevens Christmas, that you all should seek out!!

Ray Stevens: We The People...

"We The People" is the most recent single from Ray Stevens. As of now I have no idea if the song will be available commercially or not. It was posted on Ray's Twitter web-page. This particular song is all about current events and actual political figures are name-dropped in the song. The most controversial political ordeal going on right now is the health care issue. Obama-Care is what the critics are calling it and within this song you'll hear a lot about Obama-Care. It's a very topical song...and one that should have a cult following given that I don't look for this song to break into the mainstream due to the over-sensitivity awareness of modern-day programming in both TV and radio. I listened to the song a few times and liked what I heard.

I suspect those who are all for the over-haul of health care and see nothing wrong with the way things are being done in Washington will seethe or roll their eyes when listening to this song. I especially like the way it incorporates a few sound effects as censor bleeps...I imagine Ray may perform this song the next time he appears on Fox News Channel. Over the course of the last several months he appeared on Sean Hannity's program and Mike Huckabee's program. At the time he was promoting the re-issue of "If 10% Is Good Enough For Jesus", which, I might add, reached #1 on an Independent music survey recently. Is there future appearances on the cable channel on the horizon? It's likely...but probably at some point in 2010...the more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that "We The People" will be at it's most popular in the next several weeks.

Today's date is Saturday November 21st...later on tonight the Senate will be casting a "vote" on the health care bill. This vote is more or less the ignition vote to jump-start the debate on the Senate floor over the health care bill. If the Senate gets 60 "yay" votes then the bill will be debated on the Senate floor several days after Thanksgiving. If the vote doesn't reach 60 then those who created/wrote this health care over-haul will have to go back to the drawing board and edit/delete things or add in things to please a majority of Senators. Until then, listen and love the latest Ray Stevens single, "We The People". The Music City News issue is from 1990...there's nothing comical, though, about "We The People" unless you find it a scream that politicians are name-dropped in the song.
