Hello all!! Tomorrow is the big opening day of the CabaRay 2020 season. The showroom will actually be open today for a taping of Larry's Country Diner but tomorrow, March 12th, is the day of the first Ray Stevens concert of the season at the showroom. The first concert's proceeds will be donated to the 2020 Nashville Tornado relief fund. The website, CFMT, is in charge of the donations. I came across several promo pieces for Ray's opening night concert tomorrow. One of those articles can be found HERE. The link will take you to the SGN Scoops Digital site. The article being shared throughout the internet features the same text...so there isn't any personalized commentary tacked onto the press release from those sharing the information. You can also read the same press release when you click this LINK which will take you to the Country Music Tattletale site. The differences between the two can be found in photo selection of Ray Stevens and the name of the article. The SGN Scoops headline is: 'Ray Stevens to Donate CabaRay 2020 Season Opening Night Concert Proceeds to Middle Tennessee Tornado Relief Efforts' while the headline on Country Music Tattletale is much shorter: 'Ray Stevens announces Tornado Relief Concert'.
Ray Stevens in performance at the CabaRay
This season, keep in mind, Ray Stevens will be performing at the CabaRay on Thursday and Saturday nights. This is a change from the previous two seasons in which he played Friday and Saturday nights with occasional Thursday night concerts. I hadn't looked too far ahead in the 2020 schedule to see if he's scheduled any Friday night concerts. I'll do that later this morning. It's conceivable that you could spend more than four hours in the showroom. The venue opens for business at 5pm on concert days. The Piano Bar and later, the Gift Shop, are the first things to open to the public after the main doors open. Eventually the CabaRay performance room is opened for the guests. Those that purchased dinner tickets will be served dinner at this time. Those that didn't purchase a dinner option will gain access to the main showroom area an hour later which means non dinner guests most likely will stay in the Piano Bar or visit the Gift Shop or walk around the CabaRay and look at the various photo's and awards lining the walls. The concerts get underway at 7:30pm Central on Thursday and Friday nights and they last 90 minutes. The Piano Bar opens back up once the concert concludes and many times Ray makes an after concert appearance inside the Piano Bar and he has photos taken and signs autographs.
This is the CabaRay website LINK. Once opened you'll see information regarding the 2020 season and you'll see the calendar where you can select a concert well in advance. The Wednesday performances are taping sessions for Larry's Country Diner. The March 12th opening night Ray Stevens CabaRay concert will double as a benefit concert for the 2020 Nashville Tornado victims. The organization in charge of handling the donations is Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, or CFMT, for short. You can find a link to that organization when you click the links to either SGN Scoops Digital or Country Music Tattletale.
Hello once again! I didn't embed this video in my earlier blog entry because of the presence of two other video clips. I wanted to spotlight this video clip in a blog entry centered around his appearance on Cavuto Live and the charitable events taking place for the 2020 Nashville tornado victims. The screen cap of Ray illustrates the overall mood after the damage and devastation that took place in and around Nashville early Tuesday morning. Charles Payne was the guest host on this edition of Cavuto Live. Ray's appearance occurred a little before 11:30am Eastern time...which was almost 12 hours ago...since it's 10:21pm as I type this.
Whether the screen cap used by those who uploaded the video, which can be seen HERE, was intentionally selected or purely coincidental it fits the devastating subject matter. The video clip hasn't been uploaded to YouTube, yet...and so I'm linking to the video clip from the Fox News website. The video, when attempting to embed it here, was uploaded with auto-play and so I decided to post a link to the video instead. I did this because I didn't want the video to continually play while you're attempting to read the text of this blog entry.
I did save me some screen caps from the video clip!! The screen caps feature one of those play button arrows on screen and so there was no way to get around the arrow, since it appears each time you go to pause the video, but I went ahead and saved some screen caps anyway. The link to the Cavuto Live video clip doesn't feature a comment area. However, Ray provided a video clip on his Facebook page. When you click the video it'll take you to the Fox News hosting site but remember to return to Ray's Facebook page and leave your thoughts/comments. That Facebook post can be found HERE.
Ray speaks of the CabaRay showroom and how the proceeds of the March 12th concert will go to the tornado relief fund. The CabaRay's third season gets underway on March 12th and you can read all about Ray's West Nashville showroom by clicking HERE. The showroom opened in January 2018 and this will be it's third season of operation. In addition to Ray's concerts there will be further episodes of Larry's Country Diner taped at the showroom this year, too. Something to keep in mind...the time change takes effect. Sunday morning at 2am in the East we set our clocks ahead one hour and it magically becomes 3am. Obviously if you're not a night person you set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to sleep.
Click HERE to visit the Nashville Tornado Relief donation site. The acronym, CFMT, stands for Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. The site has an on-line donation option or you can mail a check/money order to their address. If you're going to be attending the CabaRay third season opening night on March 12th then your ticket price will be your donation to the Tornado Relief.
Hello all you Ray Stevens fans!! As all of you know there were a couple of deadly tornados that passed through middle Tennessee last week...impacting downtown Nashville as well as Cookeville, Tennessee and the surrounding area...I hadn't posted a blog entry since March 1st. The tornado's hit early Tuesday morning (March 3rd) during the overnight hours while most people were asleep. When I first heard about it I immediately thought of Ray and his CabaRay showroom. Afterwards I learned that the town of Cookeville had gotten the worst of the damage...but there's damage everywhere the tornado touched down. If you've read some of my recent blog entries then you'll know that Cookeville is home to PBS station, WCTE, the distributing station of Ray's television series, Ray Stevens CabaRay Nashville. Ray is scheduled to appear at the WCTE Annual Dinner this coming March 24th at the Leslie Town Center. I have no idea if that dinner is going to be canceled, postponed, or if it'll still go on as planned with the proceeds going to the tornado relief efforts. This week, March 12th, the third season of concerts at the CabaRay will kick off. Earlier this morning Ray made an appearance on Fox News Channel and spoke of the damage and mentioned that the tornado, luckily, didn't strike his area of town. He spoke about how the proceeds from the CabaRay's third season opening night, this coming March 12th, will be donated to the tornado victims. He mentioned a website where people, from all over the country, can donate on-line. The site's link is here: CFMT.ORG and once you open the link you'll see a screen pop up with a tornado donation button. However, you can also visit this LINK and it'll take you right to the donation page.
Have you seen the photo's that have graced social media from Ray Stevens over the last several days? One photo has him wearing a Mickey Mouse hat and another photo has him in Las Vegas in what looks like a performance of "Ahab the Arab" in the late 1980s surrounded by some not to be forgotten too soon extra's...one of them being Louise Mandrell.
I decided to post the photo of Ray wearing the Mickey Mouse hat. I can't tell the point in time when this photo was taken. He has his Clyde pinky ring and the beard looks a bit thin...as if it's still growing out...so it could be the early or mid 1970s...there was a period of time when he had a beard, occasionally, in the 1970s before keeping it, permanently, in 1978. If you're new to this fan created blog then I should explain that Ray's facial hair is often the subject of some of my blog entries. Whereas such a thing is not exactly the topic I dwell on I've been known to write blog entries about, or making note of, whether Ray is bearded or clean-shaven in a photo or television appearance. I just think it lends a certain personal touch to my blog entries...and one of the things I try to do is be different from other writers/bloggers that populate the internet. But anyway, the photo emerged in the hours following the March 3rd tornado's. In the comments section of his social media sites there were dozens upon dozens of inquiries about Ray and the CabaRay and if everyone was safe. In the meantime did you see the brief video clip from yesterday? The clip is for the brief song "If Your Hair's Too Long There's Sin in Your Heart". It's so funny I wonder why a lengthier performance wasn't forthcoming?!? In addition to singing the song Ray is also playing the piano and wearing a Jimmy Carter mask. I don't know the name of the female vocalist...it isn't Ray. I know his falsetto voice and this is a genuine female voice.
While putting this blog entry together I opened a separate window to browse the internet and I see that Ray's uploaded an incredible video clip from 1983...during his appearance at Opryland during the launching of The Nashville Network. The famed country music cable channel launched on March 7, 1983 and remained on the air until September 24, 2000. After this point in time the channel changed formats and name, The National Network, before ultimately becoming Spike TV in 2003. The Nashville Network, however, was re-launched as a digital channel in 2012 and was re-titled Heartland TV in 2013. In this 1983 appearance Ray performs "Piece of Paradise Called Tennessee", from his Me album. After the song Ray speaks about launch night of The Nashville Network...the video clip leaves you wanting more, however...
