Ray Stevens: Upcoming Single this Friday...

Well, here it is a new month and we're given the news that Ray Stevens will issue a brand new comedy single this Friday (June 4th) called "Gas". Ray issued a brief audio clip of the song and it's on his social media. I don't embed video clips from Facebook and so I'll wait until something shows up on YouTube. This coming Friday I'll write my review of "Gas" after I purchase it and I'll copy/paste it here on the blog page. The single will be available all over the internet this Friday and it's hard to tell what the entire recording will be about. The audio clip on his FACEBOOK page concludes with the line "so all I can say is take a deep breath, strike a match, and pull my finger" leaves you thinking the song is about a certain embarrassing bodily function and yet the promo picture of the digital single, seen in the upper left, shows a row of cars lined up at a fictional Ray Stevens fuel mart as if the song is going to be about the skyrocketing fuel prices and the recent attack on the pipeline which caused fuel shortages a couple weeks ago. So, as mentioned, we'll have to wait until Friday to hear the entire song to find exactly what it's all about. I wouldn't think he'd put out a song entirely about flatulence so I'm thinking there's going to be some sort of clever tie in with economics but he could surprise us and release a song about flatulence. I can't wait to hear the song in it's entirety nevertheless. "Gas" is definitely a novelty song and how surprising it is that amidst his recent digital album releases of his versions of pop and country music classics...all done seriously and impeccably arranged and executed...out comes a novelty song when you least expect it. The song will be part of a comedy album released later this year called Ain't Nothin' Funny Anymore

2020
As of this writing I don't know if "Gas" or the comedy album is going to be released through his own record labels or if Curb Records is going to release it. Curb is the label he's currently signed to and they've been issuing his digital albums since late last year and they re-issued his 2015 comedy album, Here We Go Again!, back on February 5, 2021. Since signing with Curb in the fall of 2020 he's released the 50th anniversary single of "Everything is Beautiful" and the medley "Everything is Beautiful" / "United We Stand". Two music videos emerged to promote the two releases. Curb then issued a digital download of his "Quarantine Song" in December 2020. Then in early February 2021 Curb re-issued 2015's Here We Go Again! which Ray had previously released on one of his own record label imprints, Player/MRI. In late February Curb released Great Country Ballads, in late March they released Melancholy Fescue, in late April they released Slow Dance, and just a couple of weeks ago in late May they issued Nouveau Retro. Now, here we are on the first day of June 2021, and by the end of the week "Gas" will be released...will it be on Curb Records or will it be released on one of Ray's record labels? I'll find out and make note of it in a future blog entry.
