Ray Stevens audio: "Freudian Slip"...

Hello once again!! As we enter the late evening and into the night time hours of Independence Day 2021 I decided to spotlight a novelty song from Ray Stevens titled "Freudian Slip". The song was written by Ray and first appeared on his 2002 album, Osama Yo' Mama, on Curb Records. In fact, it's the only album "Freudian Slip" has appeared on during the last 19 years. It's a love song with a twist...and delivered in Ray's unique style. In the story Ray sings about a woman he met and how he had it made up in his mind to come across intelligent and mature but all he could bring himself to say, after a series of stammering phrases, was something embarrassing. The song deals with the sort of thing that happens when a shy person gathers up the nerve to ask another person for a date or, for that matter, gathering up the nerve to ask any type of a question of the opposite sex. "Freudian Slip", as it's meant to be taken in the context of this novelty song, is a verbal mistake, a slip of the tongue, brought on by extreme anxiety. In psychological circles, specifically those associated with the writings and opinions of Freud, a "Freudian Slip" is said to happen anytime a person inadvertently says something by mistake but there's a layer of hidden truth to whatever is blurted out. As you listen to the novelty song you'll immediately realize that Ray isn't approaching "Freudian Slip" from a psychological point of view...this novelty song is all about verbally embarrassing one's self in the presence of the opposite sex.
