As we head into July 4th weekend I'll be composing several Ray Stevens blog entries starting with this one...focusing on the country music classic, "Til I Get it Right". The song comes from the pens of Red Lane and Larry Henley. The two writers have written a lot of songs separately...a Red Lane song that springs to mind is the classic "Miss Emily's Picture" that John Conlee recorded. Larry Henley is credited as a co-writer of a song Ray Stevens recorded in 1982, "Why Don't We Go Somewhere and Love". The co-writer with Larry Henley of that song is Kenny O'Dell. "Til I Get it Right" became a country music classic after it was recorded and released by Tammy Wynette in 1972. Her record producer, Billy Sherrill, utilized his familiar production style and it became a number one hit for her. Now, nearly 50 years later in 2021, Ray Stevens brings the song back and adds his own music arrangement to "Til I Get it Right"...and as you can see it's from his Great Country Ballads digital album released earlier this year...
