Hello fans of Ray Stevens!! I usually do one or two blog entries per year focusing on the Halloween songs that Ray has recorded. The songs, I don't believe, were never recorded specifically for Halloween...they're songs that fit the Halloween theme. I title this blog entry as such due to it being five days before Halloween on October 31st. I don't plan on writing a blog entry every single day until the 31st but you never know...once I get on a roll I sometimes can go on and on.
An hour ago Ray uploaded onto his Facebook page his performance of "Haunted House" from an episode of the CabaRay Nashville television show. The novelty song is connected to a performer who went by the name of Jumpin' Gene Simmons. He put the song out in 1964 and had a hit with it. The song had previously been recorded several years earlier, in 1958, by Johnny Fuller but it's the 1964 recording by Jumpin' Gene Simmons that made an impact and the one that appears on numerous novelty song various artist compilation albums. Ray recorded his rendition of "Haunted House" for his 9-CD Encyclopedia of Recorded Comedy Music, released in 2012. He uploaded an audio track of the song onto YouTube in 2019 and last year he uploaded the performance from CabaRay Nashville. Today he added the television show performance onto his Facebook page...
